Part-Time Library Clerk, Town of Ulster Public Library (Kingston)  

Town of Ulster Public Library is seeking a courteous, friendly, and motivated library staff member to fill a part-time position at 17 hours per week. This position requires working one Saturday a month with occasional opportunities to substitute when needed. The position starts at $15.50-17 per hour based on experience. We are looking for a flexible candidate with strong customer service skills to join our team and bring their unique expertise to our community. Prior library experience and fluency in another language are a plus.

Duties

  • Provides assistance to library users;
  • Issues borrowers’ cards according to library procedures;
  • Issues and receives library material;
  • Maintains library cards and circulation files and answers routine inquiries;
  • Assists patrons with computers, printing, and faxing.
  • Maintains files of books on order, patron holds, periodicals, shelf list of holdings, etc.
  • Supports library programs as needed.
  • Assists in assuring accurate library shelving by shelf-reading and reshelving of materials, as needed.
  • Assisting with various clerical tasks such as answering phones, making photocopies, and operating office equipment.
  • Maintaining a positive image of the library by providing courteous and helpful service to our community.
  • Assists patrons in locating books, magazines, etc.;
  • Directs volunteers as necessary;
  • May be responsible for opening and closing library, security system, night drop, locks and unlocks and empties book drop bin, as needed;
  • May rotate evening and weekend hours with other library staff;

    Qualifications
    • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED or higher
    • Must provide outstanding customer service
    • Ability to perform detailed and repetitive work
    • Good sense of humor
    • Ability to stand for long periods of time, bend, kneel and lift 40 lbs
    • strong attention to detail,
    • ability to lift up to 40 pounds,
    • understanding of developing trends in technology as they relate to library services,
    • commitment to maintaining patron privacy and confidentiality,
    • commitment to providing library services and resources for the interest, information, and enlightenment of all people of the community the library serves.
    • ability to pivot, improvise, and be creative, this position requires many different tasks throughout the day,
    • Experience in crafting or artwork, experience working with children, knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System, knowledge of common office programs (Word, Excel, Canva), running social media accounts, and curiosity, all a plus!
