Recently the 2020-2021 Executive Budget proposal for New York State was released, and for the fourth consecutive year the governor is attempting to slash the budget of our libraries. The current proposal would see approximately 5 million dollars cut from Library Aid and 20 million dollars cut from Library Construction Aid. Needless to say, if these suggestions are finalized, our libraries will be limited in their capacity to serve their patrons needs.
But there is something that you can do to help your local library, right now! If you go to this link, you will be presented with a pre-constructed letter by the American Library Association calling for the restoration of funding to our libraries. All you need to do is provide your name, address, and e-mail to become a champion of your library. So make your voice heard and let New York know that you stand by your library!
